Richard Thickpenny: How Sharia-Compliant Social Finance is Helping Support Refugees

People are fleeing their homes for their safety, undertaking unimaginable journeys, to arrive in the UK, only to find a lack of resources across the board, leaving some of our most vulnerable communities tackling key social issues head on. In this podcast, Richard Thickpenny recognised an important role which social investment could play within this national crisis.

Richard Thickpenny works for the social enterprise Ashley Community Housing. Together with a social investor, Resonance, the two organisations created the yield-sharing investment model that is compliant with Sharia law (check out our Sharia jargon buster) that also provides a return to investors.

We discuss in this podcast this ethical and innovative Sharia-compliant financing model, which has helped purchase properties to house refugees and tackle other refugee-based challenges!
