Social Investment Scotland (SIS) provides loan funding to social enterprises, charities and community groups across Scotland.

The Community Investment Enterprise Facility (CIEF) was set up to meet the needs of underserved small enterprises that have a positive impact in the communities they operate. It is managed by Social Investment Scotland and is delivered by Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) including BCRS Business Loans, Business Enterprise Fund, Finance for Enterprse and First Enterprise.

SIS's mission is to connect capital and support with communities, to make a real, measurable and sustainable impact upon people's lives. As a social enterprise and charity ourselves, our team are well placed to understand the challenges, demands, and opportunities of finance in the social sector.

Since our founding in 2001, we've invested over £71 million in over 350 organisations across the country. Our funds have grown to cater for loans from £10,000 to £1.6 million, and now also include an equity option through our impact investment arm, SIS Ventures.

  • Our loan funding can be used for a range of purposes including growing the business, working capital, buying an asset, property refurbishment or bridging the gap between spend and receiving a grant that is paid retrospectively.
  • Loans from SIS exists to support impactful organisations who hope to grow or sustain their impact. There are no application forms and it all starts with a chat; over the phone, via email or in person.
  • We support organisations through their journey of taking on social investment and offer a range of workshops and masterclasses to help them develop the skills needed to grow and thrive in the future.
